Feed the World. Pictures of Starving People
“In 1986, the anarchist band Chumbawamba released the album Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records, as well as an EP entitled "We Are the World", jointly recorded with US band A State of Mind, both of which were intended as anti-capitalist critiques of the Band Aid/Live Aid phenomenon. They argued that the record was primarily a cosmetic spectacle, designed to draw attention away from the real political causes of world hunger.”

no hell
I watched a documentary on the development of the devil through human history. After discussing it with a friend we realized our image of 'terror' resembles the image that was held of 'the satan' in the Dark Ages. As 'the satan' became Satan it's image changed from that of wolf at the door to imp in the bushes, and the church was the one to thank. Soon enough the church with it's infinite powers of control gave birth to ideals that still hold strong in our current understanding of the world. Women were burned at the stake and religions were made to destroy each other.
In the American and French revolutions, the romantic idea of Satan evolved as the cast out angel who stood against the tyrannical power of the god of the church. In the 70's this image revived itself in a psychedelic fashion (i.e. Benicio Del Toro in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). I fell asleep and didn't watch the end on the documentary but it was nice to realize the devil (like many things) has always been subject to our collective interpretation.

Dumpster Diving
Working on this with dancer friend Pheobe, we got some great footage. and the film will be posted soon. Keep on the lookout. It's a mesh between straight dumpstering (collecting fruit and veggies and loaves of bread), and more poetic movements of dance...
basically getting the images out there, to say, yes! you can just go over to the grocery store nearest you and pull out some perfectly good chomps from the dumpster out back... they basically throw this food out because it is passed the sell-by date. however the "best-by" date is often weeks later. more on this to come. but if you have any dumpster diving stories you'd like to share, please do.

is there a place i should go
to feel better about what i'm seeing?
what's some sort of exit strategy to lift
what is becoming habitual
or routine
away from my senses without being planned
or schemed
?
i'd think it'd be easier to keep breathing
than think
and i'd think it'd be easier to keep floating
than sink,
but i really don't know anything...
it's only monday, december eighth
at nine fourteen PM.
what do i know now
that i could tell myself in ten minutes
or ten years?
what do i know that's got more to say
than a jar full of blood, sweat, and tears
?

elephantom in the room
i marvel at the universe
unfolding upon itself;
my eyelids wrinkle
into waves.
i clear the looking glass
with clouds soaked heavy
from gentle fawning
just breathhhs.
watch man be dragon
watch man be woman
watch man lick his own ass.
(in the silence that is yesterday
lives your reputation today).
if not
you go on blindly
assuming we have nothing
better to watch.
happy flights fill the mind
of a man with two sets of sunglasses
sitting in room-red
imagining what's it like dead.

bank of america protecting Appalachia?
Today, BofA released its revised coal policy, which will have the immediate effect of curtailing commercial lending to companies that mine coal by blowing off the top of mountains. The policy states, in part:
Bank of America is particularly concerned about surface mining conducted through mountain top removal in locations such as central Appalachia. We therefore will phase out financing of companies whose predominant method of extracting coal is through mountain top removal. While we acknowledge that surface mining is economically efficient and creates jobs, it can be conducted in a way that minimizes environmental impacts in certain geographies.
does this really mean anything? perhaps...
